HELP BUILD HOUSES AND HOPE

NC STATE HABITAT FOR HUMANITY TEAM

The Habi-Shack is located in the northwest corner of Shack-A-Thon and acts as the headquarters for the week-long event.  The shack is built the Saturday before Shack-A-Thon and is run by the NC State Habitat for Humanity Chapter.  Shack-A-Thon participants meet in front of the shack everyday for breakfast and dinner provided by local restaurants.  The Habi-Shack also acts a meeting spot for nightly activities and displays the daily rankings of the 25+ shacks.

Anywhere from two to six NC State Habitat for Humanity Officers man the shack for the entire week to answer questions from the general public and facilitate the event.

OUR HISTORY

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

OF WAKE COUNTY

Shack-A-Thon began as a simple idea to raise awareness for affordable housing in Wake County.  Little did they know almost twenty years later it would have raised over a quarter of a million dollars for families in need.

Megan Wing led the most successful event to date raising over $46,000 with twenty shacks participating.  The College of Natural Resources came in first place raising $12,223.

Zachary Leonard a mechanical engineering and math double major exceeded his own goal by nealry $4,000 to eventually raise $28,310.  Poole College of Management came in first place setting a new personal record by raising $8,045.

Sarah Paluskiewicz led the way to a new Shack-A-Thon record by raising $37,174 surpassing the previous record by almost $10,000.  Poole College of Management came in first place raisng $6,628.

"Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity of Wake County brings people together to build homes, communities and hope."

Habitat for Humanity of Wake County builds safe, affordable houses for qualified homebuyers regardless of race, religion or background.  Each Habitat home is built in partnership with homeowner families, sponsors, and volunteers.  Their houses are safe, affordable, and are sold for no profit to the partner family who repays an affordable mortgage over 20 years.  Homeowners attend a series of workdshops on financial literacy and home maintenance, so that they are well prepared to be homeowners
